Inlight Electrical Services in Aylesbury Electrical Safety Report (EICR) mini guide to help you understand why they are so important…
Why Have an Electrical Safety Report
Being electricians here at Inlight Electrical Services we could talk all day about it but simply put electricity is the “generated flow of electrons through pathways to power everyday objects like computers, heaters and light bulbs”. Like gravity, electricity is an invisible force that we are only able to see when it acts upon other objects which is highly likely the reason we often overlook the need for our electrics to be regularly inspected to ensure they are in good working order.
Faulty, damaged or old wiring is considered one of the biggest culprits of fires in the home. Having an Electrical Safety Report (EICR) periodically carried out you can significantly reduce the risks.
What does an Electrical Safety Report (EICR) provide me with?
Previously known as the Fixed Wire Testing report your EICR carried out by Inlight Electrical Services Aylesbury will test your electrical installations to ensure they are safe, and they will not cause any risk of fire or electrical shocks. We will record the results of all the tests and inspections to ensure their safety up until such time as they are to be inspected again. We will further note and report any signs of wear and tear or damage and report any installations that do not meet current guidelines and regulations.
The two categories of EICR are a visual report which as per its title denotes does not include testing and this is only carried out if the electrical has already been tested of late. The second being periodic testing which Inlight Electrical Services Aylesbury recommend as it includes testing and would highlight any hazards or potential dangers.
Homeowners in Aylesbury are advised to have an Electrical Safety Report (EICR) carried out every ten years and landlords every five or upon a change in tenancy - failure to do so can result in hefty fines.
EICR Coding/ Grading
Your EICR will be coded in order of severity simply being C1; electrics found to be dangerous and presenting a high risk of injury. C2; those that are potentially dangerous and C3; those that could have improvements made following Inlight Electrical Services recommendations.
Any C1 issues will immediately be rectified to ensure the safety of all those present unlike C2 and C3 issues which will be noted in the Electrical Safety Report (EICR) and Inlight Electrical Services will provide you with a quotation for the same. C2 work is still compulsory however but you will have 28 days from the initial inspection for remedial works to be carried out and C3 albeit not mandatory we would advise you to ask Inlight Electrical Services to carry out these works at a mutually convenient time to avoid any further decline.
